Job Summary

Uphold is looking for an intern to join our Data Science team for a Summer Internship. You’ll work alongside data scientists and analysts on real business problems — from exploratory analysis and statistical modelling to early experiments with machine learning. We’ll define your project together, get to know what excites you, and tailor the challenge to fit. You’ll have the guidance and support you need, and the space to bring ideas to life in a fast-paced, data-rich environment.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support exploratory data analysis across product, marketing, and financial datasets.
  • Help collect, clean, and prepare data for modelling and reporting.
  • Assist in designing and running experiments to evaluate product features or communications.
  • Contribute to machine learning prototypes and decision-support tools.
  • Communicate findings clearly through visualisations, notebooks, and written summaries.
  • Explore how generative AI tools (Claude, Agents, MCPs) can accelerate data science workflows.


Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Ongoing academic studies or degree, preferred in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related quantitative field.
  • Foundational knowledge of Python.
  • Basic experience with SQL.
  • Understanding of core statistical concepts (descriptive statistics, probability, distributions).
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Solid communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Fluent written and oral English skills.


Preferred Qualifications 

  • Exposure to machine learning concepts or techniques (classification, clustering, time series forecasting).
  • Experience with data exploration using Python libraries (pandas, numpy, scikit-learn) or notebooks (Jupyter).
  • Basic experience with GenAI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or others).
  • Enthusiasm for solving real-world problems with data.
  • Experience with BI tools like Metabase, Looker, Tableau, or Power BI.
  • Fluency in cryptocurrencies or other digital assets as they are core to our business.
  • Community talks, certifications, and/or blog posts on your interests and research.
  • Open-source project contributions of any kind.
