Job Summary

Uphold is looking for an intern to join our Data Platform team for a Summer Internship. You’ll get hands-on experience with modern data platform tooling — including Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, and AWS services — working on real infrastructure challenges: pipelines, observability, and CI/CD. You’ll also have the chance to experiment and build Proofs of Concept with new data tech. We’re keen to explore how generative AI (Claude, Agents, MCPs) can take our data stack to the next level, and you can be part of that.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the design, implementation, and monitoring of ELT/ETL data pipelines.
  • Contribute to data platform infrastructure on AWS, including observability and cost optimisation.
  • Help maintain and improve CI/CD practices across the data platform.
  • Assist with performance tuning and scalability work on Snowflake and pipeline tooling.
  • Build Proofs of Concept with new data engineering tools and patterns.
  • Explore how generative AI tools (Claude, Agents, MCPs) can extend and automate data platform capabilities.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Ongoing academic studies or degree, preferred in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Foundational knowledge of software development, preferably with experience in Python.
  • Proficient in Git and basic software engineering practices (testing, code review, debugging).
  • Basic experience with SQL.
  • Basic experience with GenAI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or others).
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Solid communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Fluent written and oral English skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in modern data platforms and hands-on experimentation with data engineering tools.
  • Interest in performance tuning, monitoring, cost optimisation, and improving observability across data platforms.
  • Enthusiasm for solving real-world problems with data.
  • Exposure to cloud technologies (AWS or GCP) and containerisation concepts (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Interest in data modelling and data warehousing technologies and concepts.
  • Experience with BI tools like Metabase, Looker, Tableau, or Power BI.
  • Fluency in cryptocurrencies or other digital assets as they are core to our business.
  • Community talks, certifications, and/or blog posts on your interests and research.
  • Open-source project contributions of any kind.

What We Offer
